Wedding Dresses by the Numbers, Spring 2014

Canadian Market Research for Bridal Boutiques

We ‘ve been busy adding gowns to the our “Gallery” look-book for brides, non-stop since the last Fall bridal market. Our goal was to have the complete searchable “finder” tool, of every single wedding dress available in Canada – and we got very very close: over 2,000 dresses and counting. Better yet, over 10,000 brides used the gallery in the first quarter of 2014, which means that we can now compile our first bridal fashion insights, with statistical confidence! Here is a quick overview:

The most recognisable bridal brands in Canada

These are what the brides seem to look-for, first. They know these brands, by name, and search for them specifically. In other words, these companies have great marketing and strong, established brands. Stores that carry them will have an early “jump” on the competition!

What the brides are planning to spend on their dresses

This one is self-explanatory – and dare we say .. predictable. The one comment we have is that things appear to have gotten “worse” (i.e. budgets are smaller) since last year.

And last, but not least, the “Engagement Summary”:

Collections that capture the brides' attention

So, these are the lines most-likely to get you appointments! For whichever reason (most likely great photography in their catalogue images, or the fact that they are very large collections with many choices for everyone) these collections cause the most people to stop and click and click and click. They may not end up buying these dresses, but they are definitely going to call you and come down to see them :-)

These Were Only Summaries ( for the “general public”! )

If you are a boutique owner you will want to see the full reports (The top-50s) as well as your own “Most Engaging Dresses in Your Store’s Inventory” report. Go to the Bridal Network website, log in and you will see a “My Fashion” tab on the menu (only boutique owners see this).

We can also create custom reports. If you have something specific in mind, for a particular region  or a particular label etc. let us know!

About niko

Nicholas ("everyone calls me 'Niko'" ) Lourotos is an original founder and the managing partner of Bridal Network Inc. (2001) He launched the first online wedding directory in Canada in 1995 (remember? when we still used modems!) and has happily remained in this space ever since. These days, he prefers to be called the "Network Manager". A suitably vague job description which allows him to float a lot, talk to people a lot, go to lunch a lot, brainstorm a lot and blog a lot - and generally oversee the network and try to keep his finger on the pulse of the industry.
